Major
advances have been made in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease
over the last 5 years. Improved
technologies have made identification of breast masses a reality in the
breast surgeon’s office. Coupled
with minimally invasive breast biopsy devices, it is now possible to
biopsy breast lumps and abnormalities without the need for a trip to the
operating room.
Just as importantly, the time
between finding a lump or mammographic abnormality and getting the diagnosis
has been greatly shortened. Roughly 80%
of breast problems are benign. Rapid
diagnosis relieves anxiety for those with benign problems. Women with cancer can move more quickly and
pro-actively to the best treatments available.
Our office is committed to the
latest technology for breast diagnosis, and this commitment carries over into
the operating room for surgical therapy.
We offer state of the art surgical care for our breast patients,
including sentinel node biopsy, breast conservation where appropriate, and
coordination of care with radiation therapy and medical oncology.
