Laparoscopic and Incisional Surgeries |
|
The
era of “minimally invasive” surgery was introduced in the 1980’s with
laparoscopic cholecystectomy, or removal of the gallbladder. Dr. Hatchett performed the first
laparoscopic cholecystectomy in Bartlesville
in 1989. Many other surgeries can
be performed laparoscopically, allowing for less pain and faster
recovery, the two hallmarks of minimally invasive surgery.
Due to an increased volume of
varicose vein and breast patients, we have limited laparoscopic work to
laparoscopic cholecystectomy and laparoscopic ventral (abdominal wall and
incisional) hernia repairs.
While not all patients are
candidates for laparoscopic incisional hernia repairs, the advantages are
substantial. Recovery time is reduced
and recurrence rates are low.
